2011 Streak 121: Walk - 5.1 miles, Time - 1hr 45min, Weather - hot and summery
Today was the day of the Dacorum vintage car rally where a large number of lovingly restored vehicles journey around the boundary of Dacorum before being displayed in Hemel's town centre.
It is a great social occasion for all those involved to gather, look at each others vehicles, admire and compare notes. Mostly the cars are owned by gentlemen of a certain age (presumably that had something to do with time and resources required) , quite unlike the youths gathered around the skate park or the mottocross riders but similar in one important respect: they are enthusiasts with a shared interest.
Amongst all the cars there were 4 motorbikes including this Ariel. Whenever I rsee bikes like these I cannot help but think of Richard Thompson's Vincent Black Lightening 1952. Ariels have a special mention in the line "I see angels on Ariels in leather and chrome, swooping down from Heaven to carry me home."
